Prayer for students who wish to learn in relative peace:
As we walk these bustling hallways, hallowed be their name,
Raised by those we may (or may not) be eager to please,
Know, Death, your quest to win this cold, godforsaken game
Leads us to ensure this fire for learning will not cease,
And the hand that holds the gun bears the burden of shame.
Never again will a child’s blood coat your mouthpiece
Devoid of louder voices, active minds, truer aim.

The touches you added to make this poem sound like a prayer were very effective. I like that the end lines have bite to them when they directly address Death. The line that moved me most was "And the hand..."

I’m with Nate. I love the prayerfulness of this. It really reminded me of saying The Lord’s Prayer in mass. It did something very special to this piece.

This was a beautiful prayer for safety and peace. This is going to sound dorky, but I'm so impressed that you made it rhyme as well. And you incorporated the "lighter".

Such a powerful ending - "Devoid of louder voices, active minds, truer aim."

I love the way you used the structure of a traditional prayer/the Lord's prayer for this powerful acrostic. That was a really effective way to convey both your message, and a nice take on thoughts and prayers.
